4) Tosin Oke:

Maintaining his spot in 4th place from last year’s rankings, Tosin Oke overcame some teething problems to end the year better. He competed in the Diamond League this year; finishing 6th in his first outing in Doha with a mark of 16.83m and with 16.71m came 3rd in the Birmingham Grand Prix.

Oke retained his National title, leaping to 16.98m to make the World Championships. He finished 8th at the competition with 16.81m and said afterwards that he had to been competing with injuries.

After a running battle with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), both parties sheathed their swords and Oke was on the plane to Brazzaville where he retained his African Games title, jumping 17.00m. That feat qualified him for the Rio Olympics next year, where he will be hoping to make his second appearance.

The former Commonwealth champion is ranked 21st in the IAAF 2015 Top list.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
