Former World Champion in the women’s 400m, Amantle Montsho of Botswana has resumed training with her two-year doping ban set to end in July.

However, according to reports from a Botswana online publication www.mmegi.bw, the three-time African champion is not going to compete at the forthcoming Olympics coming up in August in Brazil as it was confirmed that the qualifiers would have taken place by then.

Montsho won the 400m at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 but failed a routine drugs test at the 2014 edition of the Games in Glasgow. Subsequently, the results of her ‘B’ sample also tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine, and she was handed a two-year ban from the sport.

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) spokesperson, Glody Dube told the publication that the federation would have wanted Montsho to be part of the team to Rio 2016. She narrowly missed a place on the podium in London four years ago as she finished 4th with a time of 49.75s.

Dube said even though the 32-year old is allowed to train, she cannot interact with other athletes.

“She is not allowed to train with other athletes. She can only use facilities such as the stadium when other athletes are not present. She should not interact with other runners at all,” he said.
