The second edition of the Track and Field Coaches Association of Nigeria (TAFCAN) Trials for the year will get underway on Friday, April 8 at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State.
The competition was initially billed to hold at the Main bowl of the National Stadium. However, it was shifted to the Yaba venue in a bid to honour late sprinter, Nkem Ezealah who passed on in an auto crash last month.
Ezealah graduated from the Yaba College of Technology, and a novelty Football match will be played in her honour on Friday. As such, both the Football and Track and Field events will take place concurrently at the same venue with action set to commence at 2pm.
The Field events to be competed in are the Hammer Throw (men and women) and Shot Put Throw (men and women). The Discus Throw (men and women) is still being reviewed.
The Track events for the men and women categories include the 100m, 800m, 3000m, 400m and 4x100m. The 4x200m will be open to female teams only while their male counterparts will compete in the Medley relay (4 x 300m).
Athletes and officials have been implored to put on black bands on Friday as the Athletics community pay their last respects to Nkem Ezealah.
The first TAFCAN Trials for 2016 took place in February in conjunction with the Fred Agbaje Foundation.
