Nigeria’s Bashiru Abdullahi raced to a National U-20 Record and Personal Best (PB) of 13.58s in the 110 Hurdles on Day 2 of the ongoing IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland.

The African Junior Champion narrowly missed a spot in Thursday’s final after finishing 5th in Heat 3, which was the fastest of all three semis, and was won by Jamaica’s De’Jour Russell with a World U-20 Lead of 13.20s.

The Top 4 athletes in Abdullahi’s heat made it to the final, and will be joined by the Top 2 athletes in heats 1 and 2. Japan’s Takumu Furuya (13.41s) and Matthew Treston of Great Britain (13.70s) made it through from Heat 1, while Marcus Krah of the USA (13.36s) and Great Britain’s James Weaver (13.40s) progressed from Heat 2.

Abdullahi will no doubt rue this lost opportunity, considering that he ran a faster time than some of the qualified athletes from the previous heats.  He would however take solace in the fact that he has bettered his previous best mark of 13.6s.
