Usain Bolt shook off talks about his fitness going to the Rio 2016 Olympics as he raced to a time 19.89s to win the men’s 200m at the Muller Anniversary Diamond League event in London.
There were fears that Bolt might not be 100% fit before the Olympics having copped a hamstring injury at the Jamaica trials, but having now run the fifth fastest time in the world this year, the defending champion seems ready.
In a race that witnessed two delays, Bolt was not ruffled as he kept his composure, and came out of the bend from lane 6 to beat Alonso Edward who was 2nd with a Season’s Best (SB) of 20.04s and Adam Gemili 3rd in 20.07s.
Meanwhile world leader Jimmy Vicaut further underlined while he has been tipped as potential medallist at Rio Olympics, running the fastest time of 9.96s in the heats and eventually winning the men’s 100m.
In Vicaut’s two races, he had to recover from a slow start and claw his back and win. The French athlete who lost at the European Championships last week, overcame that disappointment to win in a time of 10.02s.
Isiah Young finished 2nd in 10.07s, with Martina Churandy, the man who beat Vicaut in Amsterdam finishin 3rd in 10.10s.
