Did you miss any Team Nigeria event on Day 1 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games? Don’t worry we have you covered as we recap all the actions involving Nigerian athletes.

The first Nigerian athlete in action was Chierika Ukogu who progressed to quarter-finals of women’s Single Sculls. You do be forgiven if you don’t know that Nigeria has an athlete in the Rowing event.

Meanwhile in the women’s Table Tennis Singles, both Olufunke Oshonaike and Edem Offiong qualified from the Preliminary rounds but were unable to progress beyond the first round.

However, 42-year old Segun Toriola who also competed in the Table Tennis, advanced to Round 2 of the men’s Singles after winning round 1 of his game on Saturday.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
