It was a Day 4 to remember for Team Nigeria at the ongoing 2016 Olympic Games as more history was made with the country assured of a berth in the semifinals of women’s Singles Sculls Rowing event in Brazil.

All over the social media in Nigeria on Tuesday, the name Chierika Ukogu trended after she qualified for the semifinals of Rowing, the first time ever a Nigerian athlete will do so.

Ukogu was not the only Nigerian in action on Day 4 with D’Tigers playing their 2nd game of the competition. They fought hard, however they lost to former FIBA champions Lithuania who beat them 89-80 points.

Having claimed two surprise wins en route making the quarterfinals, world number one, Ma Long did not give Aruna Quadri any room to cause another upset as he beat the Nigerian to progress to the semifinals.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
