4. David Rudisha
Kenya’s David Rudisha, also holds the enviable position of being a World Record (WR) holder, which he did on his historic run in the 800m at London 2012 where he claimed the GOLD medal.
The Olympic Champion will be aiming to have such a performance again in Rio, but his not too consistent outings this year have raised doubts as to whether he can successfully replicate this feat.
First of all, he’s not having a good run in the Diamond League standings where he’s currently placed 8th on the log without a win this year. Then at the Kenyan Olympic Trials, he struggled but closed the gap to cross the line 3rd behind a speeding Alfred Kipketer.
However, this didn’t deter the World Champion and just at the right time, he peaked to the top of the world standings, clocking 1:43.35 in Székesfehérvár Sóstói Stadion on July 18.
Rudisha will be going to Rio with so much confidence with this performance, and will be gunning to go past not just his Kenyan rivals, but the Europeans as well.
