2. Caster Semenya

Every athlete wants to dominate their trademark event. But when an athlete can rule any event they compete in, and also stand favourite to break a long standing World Record (WR), such athlete rightfully deserves a place near the top position.

The 2009 World 800m Champion, decides what event she wants to do at a certain time and executes it conveniently, outclassing the rest of her competitors in the process.

This she proved at the South African Senior Championships in April, where she became the first woman in her country’s history to win National titles in the 400m, 800m and 1500m.

Caster Semenya maintained her unbeaten run to win the women's 1500m in Durban.
Caster Semenya won three GOLD medals at the South African Championships.

Going into the African Championships in Durban as the favourite for any event she decided to participate in, Semenya shone once again, leaving the competition as the standout performer after winning three GOLD medals (800m, 1500m and 4x400m).

Not done with these ground breaking performances, the London 2012 Silver medallist became the standout athlete at the Monaco Diamond League, racing to a lifetime best of 1:55.33 in the 800m, which became a new World Lead (WL), Meeting Record (MR) and Diamond League Record (DLR) in the process.

Although the WR stands at 1:53.28, which was set as far back as 1983 by Jamila Kratochvilova, the possibility of Semenya erasing this cannot be over ruled, as currently she’s just 2s shy from doing this.
