Team Nigeria had a Day 9 to forget at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics, as there wasn’t much to cheer from the events they competed in on Sunday.

Maryam Usman who was the sole Weightlifter representing Nigeria at the Olympics finished 9th in the women’s +75kg category, lifting a cumulative total of 263kg in the event. Although it must be noted that she struggled with an injury.

On the track, the duo of Margaret Bamgbose and Patience Okon George ran in the 400m semis but couldn’t make it to the final.

Bamgbose finished 7th in heat 1 with a time of 51.92s and Okon George 2nd in heat 3 clocking 52.52s

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
