On Day 5 of Athletics at Rio 2016 , Usain Bolt got back to the track two days after retaining his 100m Olympic title to continue his quest of winning an unprecedented Triple-Triple after easily winning his 200m heats.
Meanwhile, his countryman Omar McLeod became the first ever to win an Olympic GOLD for Jamaica in any sprint hurdling event, after running a brilliant race to win the men’s 110m Hurdles.
Earlier in the day, USA’s Christian Taylor successfully defended his Triple Jump Olympic title, as well as Sandra Perkovic who won the women’s Discus event with just one valid throw.
The men’s High Jump was an interesting contest, with Derek Drouin clinching the GOLD medal after Mutaz Barshim and Bohdan Bondareko failed to match his clean slate up to 2.38m.
If there were doubts that Dafne Schippers will not win the women’s 200m, such was dispelled after she executed a very good race to go under 22s and win heat 1 of the semifinals.
While in women’s 1500m, Faith Kipyegon showed that her dominance this year has not been a fluke as she beat Genzebe Dibaba to win the GOLD medal on Tuesday.
