There were so many highlights on Day 6 of Athletics at Rio 2016 Olympics, but Elaine Thompson beating Dafne Schippers in the 200m final to win the double has to be the pick of the cherries.

However, USA having a clean sweep of medals in the women’s 100m Hurdles equally has a strong case for the best action of the day.

So also was that of Conselsus Kipruto who stormed to an Olympic Record to clinch the men’s 3000m Steeplechase title. Meanwhile in the Long Jump, Tianna Bartoletta jumped a Personal Best  of 7.17mto take GOLD from Brittney Reese who Silver.

In the men’s 200m, Justin Gatlin’s shock elimination makes the coast clearer for Usain Bolt who remains the favourite to retain his title.

While in the Decathlon, defending champion champion Aston Eaton leads by 4621 points after four events and looking well to successfully defend his Olympic title.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
