The MoC league in the Fantasy Diamond Race contest is getting so competitive that it is becoming increasingly difficult for teams to steer clear of each other, as they battle for supremacy with this season’s competition gradually coming to an end.

In fact such was the fierce battle which saw many teams tied on the same number of points after the Rabat Diamond League, and as such the management has decided to merge results from Morocco with that of the London DL in order to have clear-cut winners.

With Rabat guaranteeing so many Meeting Records (MRs) in fact as many as as six were recorded, it was not surprising seeing that most teams literally saved their best for it.

London DL had just two MRs achieved by Hellen Obiri who not only clocked a new Kenyan Record, but also a World Lead of 4:16.56 to win the women’s 1 mile event. While in the women’s Javelin, Barbora Spotakova came through to win with an MR. Now, you don’t see teams regularly pick captains from these two events, do you?

However, in Rabat, there were a variety of MRs cast to select from. In fact, teams were spoilt for choices that some events like the men’s Shot Put and Pole Vault didn’t even have any MR prior to the competition.

Ryan Crouser, Elaine Thompson, Andre De Grasse, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Chijindu Ujah and Pawel Wojciechowski all posted MRs in their respective events. Imagine having all six of them in your team (with one as captain) that’s 60 points + 150 points, and if you were lucky with the other three athletes in your team winning, that’s maximum 255 points returned.

How the teams fared in both the London & Rabat Diamond League meets

So this brings us to the teams that emerged tops after these two meets, remember we are combining the results from both London and Rabat.

WeRun team owned by Jacob Ikponmwosa emerged tops in these two meets amassing a total of 390 points, while Sunday Saviour’s team finished 2nd with 381 points, just a point above Team TobiAmusan’s team (Michael Vincent) who finished 3rd with 380 points.

For WeRun team, they would be happy finishing tops having come close in Rome with a 3rd place finish, while Team TobiAmusan gets to keep their place in the top 3 having won Lausanne.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
