Chukwuebuka Enekwechi sent out his implement in the men’s Shot put to an Indoor Personal Best (PB) of 21.09m for a commanding win ahead of Willie Morrison (19.34m) at the Alex Wilson Invitational, Notre Dame (USA), on Saturday.

Enekwechi, the African outdoor Champion and a Commonwealth Games Silver medallist, had opened his season earlier this month at the Fred Wilt Invitational with a 20.55m throw. However,  in Notre Dame, he set out with a Season’s Best (SB) of 20.63m on his first throw before pulling the Personal Record attempt on his second try.

He also threw 20.85m and 20.84m respectively on his final two tries. Altogether, five of his six throws landed well past 20m while he surged to 5th in the world.

The newly set mark also makes him Nigeria’s third best indoor thrower in the event, just behind Josh Awotunde and Stephen Mozia.
