Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle pulled a big upset in the men’s Long Jump Final at the 2019 World Championships, stunning favourites to win the gold medal. He entered the competition on a strong note, bounding out to a Personal Best (PB) of 8.46m on his first attempt which would have even been enough for the win.

He fouled on his next two attempts before he flew out to a massive new Personal Best mark of 8.69m which also doubles as a World Lead (WL), it was indeed a well timed peak from the Jamaican who has been improving all season.

Olympic Champion, Jeff Henderson leapt a Season’s Best (SB) mark of 8.39m while pre-championships favourite, Cuba’s Miguel Echevarria settled for 3rd place with a mark of 8.34m.

South Africans, Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai further followed with best jumps of 8.28m and 8.23m to finish 4th and 5th respectively.
