Ben Uzoh has been playing for Nigeria's D'Tigers since 2013 when he played at the Afrobasket Championships in Abidjan

D’Tigers Point Guard, Ben Uzoh in a chat with Basketball governing body, FIBA, tried to recount his First Basket and Assist he made on his international debut playing for Nigeria.

Uzoh has been playing for Nigeria since 2013 when he competed at the AfroBasket Championships in Ivory Coast, with D’Tigers gradually coming up in their subsequent dominance of the continent. Nigeria lost to Senegal by a point in the quarterfinals of that Championships.

On if he remembers his first Basket for Nigeria: “honestly I don’t so much. But I remember that game (against Senegal), I think we took care of business pretty handedly. I don’t think I scored a whole lot, but I may have scored like 10pts” Uzoh told FIBA.

Although he might not vividly recall his first basket for D’Tigers, his first assist is still very fresh in his memory: “I remember the first assist (to Alade Aminu) more than my own bucket. Obviously that was a pretty exciting time.

Uzoh played an integral role in Nigeria’s triumphant team who won the 2015 AfroBasket Championships in Tunisia, also making the team to Rio 2016 Olympics and the 2019 World Cup in China.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
