Utah Jazz were left to rue their insipid display in the 4th quarter of their game this evening, giving up a 12pt lead after the 3rd quarter to lose by 122-114 to Dallas Mavericks.

At some point in the game, Jazz led by as much as 21pts, but somehow Mavericks clawed their way back, putting up an impressive fight in the 4th quarter and outscoring their opponents by 20pts (34-14).

DR Congo’s Emmanuel Mudiay had one of his best games for Jazz since the restart, hitting double digits of 14pts, 4reb and 4ast. Mudiay was his team’s third highest scorer in the game, and had a 3pt conversion rate of 50% in the game.

Another player who was quite outstanding despite playing less minutes (14mins: 45s) was Senegal’s Georges Niang who made 13pts in the game, his highest points tally post Covid 19 lockdown.

Niang was exceptional with his outside shots, making all four of his 3pt shots, and then converting one of the two free throws he had in the game. It was one of Niang’s 3pt shot in the 3rd quarter that put Jazz 21pts up on Mavericks.

Also in the game, Olumiye “Miye” Oni, saw a lot of action for the Jazz, making 5pts, 2reb and an assist in the game.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
