Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei was in brilliant form in the women’s event at the 2020 London Marathon, running a commanding race to take the win in a fast 2:18:58 for her 2nd consecutive win at the event.

The World Record (WR) holder defeated USA’s Sara Hall who with a spirited finish, kicked past a flatfooted Ruth Chepngetich to take 2nd in a massive Personal Best (PB) of 2:22:01 as the latter came through for 3rd in 2:22:05.

The early pace was set by Chepngetich and Kosgei, both resuming the lead from 10km and passing the halfway mark in 1:08:12 and 1:08:13 respectively.
Kosgei however took the initiative at 30km, stretching past her compatriot with a big 46 seconds lead at 35km.

Hall came from 7th place at 25km to 3rd and with a late outburst a few metres to the finish, she powered past a tiring Chepngetich to pick up 2nd place while the Kenyan settled for 3rd.

Ethiopia’s Ashete Bekere finished 4th in 2:22:51 as her compatriot followed through for 5th in 2:24:43.
