The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that Super Eagles attacking hot-shot Victor Osimhen has been excused from the upcoming friendly matches against Tunisia and Algeria in Austria.
The Napoli forward will now be replaced by Paul Onuachu, who continued his impressive goalscoring form for Genk, netting for the fourth Jupiler League game in a row as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Waasland-Beveren on Saturday.
Onuachu has now taken his tally for the season to seven in as many league games. His compatriot in Genk, Cyriel Dessers, was called up for the game earlier on.
Reports in Italy have it that two Napoli players, Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas, and a member of the staff have tested positive for Covid-19.
The club decided not to travel to Turin yesterday after a statement from the local health authority – ASL – that asked to place certain players and coach Gennaro Gattuso into ‘fiduciary isolation’ which, however, is not technically a transfer ban.
The whole Napoli team will undergo new COVID tests tomorrow and on Tuesday, the team will continue to train at the Stadio San Paolo but they are not going to fly to Turin for tonight’s game.
That is why Gernot Rohr has acted immediately to replace Osimhen who is part of the Napoli team.
