Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso won the country's first medal in the history of the World Athletics Championships

Hugues Fabrice Zango got his 2021 season off in Aubere with a stunner in the men’s Triple Jump where he bounded out to an indoor World Record (WR) of 18.07m, becoming the first man in the history of the event to surpass 18m indoors!

He shattered the previous record of 17.92m set by his coach and former World Champion, Teddy Tamgho at the 2011 in Paris and also became the 7th man to ever break past the 18m mark, both indoors and outdoors.

Zango also becomes the first African to hold a World Athletics Record in a jumping event.
