Nigeria's Seye Ogunlewe congratulates Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes after racing in the same 100m heat at the World Championships in Budapest.

The duo of Seye Ogunlewe and Usheoritse Itsekiri both lived up to the billing as they secured automatic qualification tickets to the men’s semi-finals at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The evening session served us the much anticipated men’s 100m heats, starting with the Heat 1 where Seye Ogunlewe finished 3rd to qualify for the next round.

The two-time Nigerian Champion posted a time of 10.07s in the race that was won by Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes who clocked 10.00s.

Reigning National 100m champion Usheoritse Itsekiri also came through to finish 3rd in Heat 2 with a time of 10.17s. USA’s Noah Lyles crossed the line first in that race with a time of 9.95s just as Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala (9.97s) followed closely in 2nd place.

Sadly, Favour Ashe was disqualified for a false start in the Heat 5. Jamaica’s Oblique Seville powered to win in that heat, equalling his Personal Best (PB) of 9.86s.

The semi final will take place on Day 2 of the Championships around 3:35pm (Nigerian time).
