Day 4 saw the return of the reigning World Champion and World Record Holder Tobi Amusan, who started her quest to defend her title from last year in her primary event, the 100m hurdles, after a one-month hiatus from competition.

Amusan was drafted into Heat 5 alongside Olympic Bronze medallist Megan Tapper of Jamaica. She did not get a quick start but was able to get to her rhythm and still had enough time to ease to the finish line in 12.48s over Tapper (12.51s). Michelle Jenneke of Australia was third in 12.71s.

The World Champion’s time was the third-fastest overall in the heats. She will return tomorrow for the semifinals. Amusan was Nigeria’s sole representative for Day 4.
