Kayinsola Ajayi upstaged a quality field on Day 1 of the Olympic Trials, storming to a solid time of 10.14s to win the men’s 100m at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Fresh off his stellar performance in the NCAA circuit where he won a Bronze medal, Ajayi was fully in form as he ran a commanding time of 10.18 in the semifinals, the fastest time overall.

Alaba Akintola followed closely to take 2nd in 10.16s while last year’s champion, Usheoritse Itsekiri claimed 3rd in 10.22s
