Israel Okon Sunday and Precious Nzeakor were among the first-time winners of National titles as the pair dominated the men’s and women’s 200m respectively on Day 3 of the Olympic Trials in Benin.

It was a close battle in both divisions. In the men’s event, Sunday left it at the finish line as he slightly got the nod over defending champion Alaba Akintola, to snatch the win in a Personal Best (PB) of 20.80s while the latter recorded a 20.81s. African Games Bronze medallist, Consider Ekanem was also in the mix as he placed 3rd in 20.88s.

On the women’s side, Nzeakor upset Olayinka Olajide to earn her National crown with a new lifetime best of 23.14s. Olajide returned a PB of 23.17s to finish 2nd ahead of Ella Onojuvwevwo who clocked a time of 23.73s in 3rd position.
