African Indoor Record holder in the men’s Shot put Chukwuebuka Enekwechi made it a hattrick of titles at the African Senior Championships after extending his dominance on the continent to six years, taking the first GOLD medal of the 2024 African Championships in Douala, Cameroon, on Friday, 21st June.

Enekwechi who had won the last two editions of the Championships (Asaba 2018 and Mauritius 2022), bettered his Championships Record (CR) of 21.20m set two years ago in Saint Pierre by 2cm, striking GOLD with a new record of 21.22m.

The multiple Continental winner who recently won his fifth national title with a mark of 21.37m has been having a sensational season, having bettered his Personal Best (PB) and National Record (NR) to 21.91m in May.

Asides winning his third consecutive GOLD, the Nigerian has consistently broken the CR with his winning throws at every edition he has attended: Asaba 2018- 21.08m; Mauritius 2022 – 21.20m; and Douala 2024 – 21.22m.
