The Nigerian quartet of Chidi Okezie, Samuel Ogazi, Dubem Amene and Esther Elo Joseph made it through the final of the 400m on Day 2 of the 2024 African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Ogazi won Heat 2 of the men’s 400m semifinals from lane 8 with a time of 45.44s ahead of Donald Chiyangwa (45.51s). Amene and Okezie placed 3rd and 4th in 45.83s and 45.96s respectively in Heat 1 of the men’s 400m semifinal behind Botswana’s Anthony Pesela (45.40s).

Esther Elo Joseph posted a time of 52.26s to take 2nd behind South Africa’s Miranda Coetzee who ran 50.91s and secure a berth in the final which will take place on Day 3 of the championships. The Nigerian is the country’s sole entrant for the event.
