Sade Olatoye and Goodness Iredia were Nigeria’s individual medallists on Day 2 of the ongoing 2024 African Athletics Championships holding in Douala, Cameroon.

Defending champion, Olatoye won her second consecutive African Championships medal in the women’s Hammer throw with a distance of 67.72m to claim the Silver medal.

Goodness Iredia claimed Bronze on his international debut for Nigeria in the men’s Long Jump with a mark of 7.75m, becoming the first Nigerian to medal in the event since Stanley Gbagbeke won Bronze at the 2010 edition in Nairobi.

Compatriot, Emmanuel Njoku was three centimetres shy from making the podium as he leapt to a distance of 7.72m to finish 4th.

The event was won by South Africa’s Lionel Coetzee with a distance of 7.78m.
