Nigerian Record holder in the men’s Javelin throw Chinecherem Nnamdi won a Silver medal on the final day of the 2024 African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, becoming the latest Nigerian to medal in the event since Samuel Kure’s Bronze at the Asaba 2018 edition.

The reigning African Games Champion commenced with a 75.47m throw that had him in the lead, which he later improved to 79.22m. African Record Holder Julius Yego exerted his pound of flesh from Nnamdi who beat him to GOLD at the African Games, launching his implement to an impressive 80.24m. Compatriot Samuel Kure placed 5th with 69.26m.

Nnamdi still holds the African lead in the event with a mark of 82.80m set in March at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
