The mixed relay quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ojeli and Patience Okon George got edged in making the final after finishing 9th overall despite clocking a new National Record of 3:11.99

The race kicked off with Samuel Ogazi’s impressive start and strong finish in the last 50 meters before handing over to Onojuvwevwo, who took the lead until the last 70 meters where Lieke Klaver overtook her.

Emmanuel Ojeli ran a terrific leg recording a split time of 44.73s, pushing Nigeria to second place. Okon George ran a strong race but couldn’t hold up as she faded in the last 30 meters allowing Italy to take the last automatic spot.

Nigeria finished 4th in the heat with a new National Record of 3:11.99 behind Great Britain (3:10.61), The Netherlands (3:10.81) and Italy (3:11.59), placing 9th overall. They were just a spot shy from making the final as the top 8 fastest teams advance through.
