Favour Ofili made history by becoming the first Nigerian woman in 28 years to qualify for the final of the women’s 200m at the Paris Olympics.

She secured the second automatic spot with a Season’s Best (SB) of 22.05s, finishing just behind Julien Alfred, who won the race with a time of 21.98s.

Ofili’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as the last Nigerian to reach the women’s 200m final was Mary Onyali, who won a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The Nigerian’s time ranked her third fastest overall placing her in medal contention.
