Nigeria’s sole representative in the women’s Long Jump at the 2024 U20 World Championships, Prestina Ochonogor, made a strong start in the Peruvian capital by securing her spot in the final with a leap of 6.28m (-0.6).

With the automatic qualifying standard set at 6.40m, and no athlete surpassing that mark, Ochonogor emerged as the second-best performer in qualifying across two groups of 24 athletes, trailing only Spain’s Laura Martinez, who led the day with a jump of 6.37m.

Ochonogor, who also reached the final of the women’s Long Jump at the Paris 2024 Olympics, will be aiming for a podium finish as she heads into the final on Day 2 of the Championships.
