Team Nigeria’s sole representative in the women’s Long Jump, Prestina Ochonogor sailed to a 5th place finish in the final of the event at the ongoing World U20 Athletics Championships in Lima, Peru.

Ochonogor qualified for the final with the second overall farthest mark of 6.28m in the qualifications but was unable to replicate the same placement and distance in the final. Aside her 6.21m jump in the fifth round, which secured her fifth place, all of her jumps were below 6.10m, with three of them below the 6-metre mark.

Ochonogor’s position is the highest a Nigerian female longer has recorded in the competition since Esther Aghatise’s 3rd place finish in 2002.

Australia’s Delta Amidzovski took the title in a Personal Best (PB) of 6.58m while Sophie Beckmon (6.54m) of USA and Polish jumper Julia Adamczyk (6.34m) wrapped up the medal podium.
