The penultimate day of the World U20 Athletics Championships witnessed the end of Team Nigeria’s campaign as they return without a medal for the second consecutive edition.
After a rough three days of competition, Nigeria was hoping to keep their medal dreams alive on Day 4 with three relay teams in action. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned for the relay squad as none made it past their respective heats.
The women’s 4x400m team scratched out of the competition while the women’s 4x100m quartet comprising Justina Eyakpobeyan, Prestina Ochonogor, Favour Onyah and Precious Nzeakor initially placed 5th with an identical time of 45.55s shared with Italy and Brazil, but eventually got disqualified due to a late baton exchange.
The men’s 4x100m team consisting of Caleb Joshua, Oseiwe Salami, Caleb John, and Chidera Ezeakor placed 3rd in their heat in a Seasons Best (SB) of 40.28s, automatically knocking them out from qualifying to the final.
