Seven-time Paralympian Lucy Ejike narrowly missed out on a podium placement after finishing 4th in the women’s para powerlifting 67kg class on Day 9, ending her medal-winning streak from Sydney 2000.

Ejike had a phenomenal run in the competition having started her attempts with an opening weight of 132kg, which kept her in the lead for a short period.

In her second attempt of 137kg, the three-time Paralympic Champion registered a no-lift, automatically bumping her to Bronze medal position.

The Nigerian hoped to go into GOLD medal contention by successfully lifting a Paralympic Record of 139kg in her final attempt. Unfortunately that did not happen as she once again registered a no-lift, ultimately finishing in 4th place.

Despite not winning a medal at the Paralympics for the first time since Sydney 2000, Ejike is still considered a national heroine for her hard work, dedication and consistency over the past two decades.

Ejike’s Paralympic medal collection consists of 3 GOLD (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 & Rio 2016), 2 Silver ( Sydney 2000 & London 2012) and 1 Bronze (Tokyo 2020).
