Team Nigeria made waves in Para Powerlifting, Para Table Tennis, and Para Athletics on Day 10 of the 2024 Paralympics, earning three podium spots – two Silver medals and a Bronze to take the country’s tally in Paris to six medals.
Bose Omolayo claimed a Silver medal in the women’s up to 79kg class in Para Powerlifting, marking her third consecutive Paralympic podium finish, having already claimed two GOLD medals in Rio and Tokyo respectively.
Despite injuring her right arm after her first
successful 145 kg lift, Omolayo pushed through even though she struggled with her second and third attempts. Nevertheless, her earlier lift was enough for Silver.
Flora Ugwunwa also grabbed a Silver in the women’s Javelin F54 with a throw of 19.26m. This is her third consecutive Paralympic medal, after winning two GOLD medals in Rio and Tokyo respectively.
Meanwhile, Lauritta Onye, competing in the women’s Shot Put F40, finished 5th. The former Paralympic champion gave her Season’s Best of 8.50m on her first attempt but fouled three of her six throws.
In Para Table Tennis, Isau Ogunkunle added another medal to Nigeria’s collection as he nicked a Bronze medal in the men’s Singles Class 4 event.
He faced South Korea’s Young-Gun Kim in the semifinals, taking the first set but eventually losing 3-1. Ogunkunle fought hard, even pushing the fourth set into a tie-break, but fell short. In this event, both semifinalists
are awarded Bronze without a playoff.
