Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Libya at the AFCON qualifiers which held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, October 11th, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s late goal breaking the deadlock in the 87th minute.

The win keeps Nigeria unbeaten in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and firmly on course for a spot in Morocco next year.

After dominating possession for much of the match but struggling to find the back of the net, Nigeria finally found their breakthrough when Moses Simon delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, which Dele-Bashiru calmly took home.

Libya, who haven’t featured at the AFCON since 2012 and have been winless in their last seven matches, defended throughout the match but couldn’t hold off Nigeria’s relentless pressure in the dying minutes.

With this victory, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D with seven points, extending their unbeaten streak at the AFCON qualifiers to six matches. The return leg will take place on Tuesday, 15th October at the Martyrs of February Stadium, Benina, Libya.
