The SEC Indoor Championships taking place from February 27 to March 1 at the Fasken Indoor Track and Field Facility in Texas, was an opportunity for some of Nigeria’s athletes to assess their form for the 2025 season.

Justin Jimoh competed in the men’s High jump for first time at the competition since earning an athletic scholarship to LSU.

He started his jump series by clearing 2.06m, then moved up to 2.11m, followed by 2.16m, before setting a new Personal Best of 2.19m, which earned him a Bronze medal – a solid way to make a debut.

Jimoh attempted 2.22m but missed all his jumps. The event winner, Kyren Washington (Oklahoma), cleared 2.25m, while Arvesta Troupe (Ole Miss) finished 2nd with 2.22m.

Israel Okon took no prisoners in the men’s 60m, dashing to a fiery 6.51s to decimate the entire field in his semifinal heat, setting a new PB in the process.

Kayinsola Ajayi and Fakorede Adekalu also won their respective heats in 6.57s and 6.63s to qualify for the men’s 60m final.

Okon’s time currently ties Ajayi’s School Record, Nigerian, African and NCAA Lead. It also places him tied 4th in the Nigerian all-time list alongside Davidson Ezinwa and Favour Ashe.
