After 11 events of the first 2 days of the 2016 African Championships in Durban, South Africa expectedly leads the medals table with 6 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze – the host nation already seems to have built an unassailable lead with just 2 out of 5 days completed.
Cote d’Ivoire is currently 2nd with 2 Golds and 1 Bronze from the 100m sprints, while Kenya is currently third with 1 Gold and 2 Bronze medals. Tunisia and Senegal are the only other countries with Gold medals so far, while usual powerhouses Nigeria currently occupy 10th place with 2 Bronze medals courtesy of Stephen Mozia in the Shotput and Discus!
Expect plenty of change below South Africa in the medals table, with several finals coming up on Day 3, including the men’s and women’s 400m and 4x100m relays, men’s 400mH, 800m, 3000m Steeplechase, and women’s long jump!
