With just one day left at the 2016 African Championships in Durban, hosts South Africa reign supreme at the top of the Medals Table after Day 4, with 11 Golds, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze. Even with 15 events still to be decided on the final day, the hosts are expected to extend their lead further and add more Golds to their tally, particularly with Wayde Van Niekerk in the men’s 200m final and Caster Semenya in the women’s 800m final still to come today.
Kenya and Nigeria are locked in a keenly contested battle for 2nd place. They have 4 Gold medals each so far, but the East Africans (4 Silver, 3 Bronze) are slightly ahead of the West Africans (2 Silver, 5 Bronze) because they have won more Silver medals. Both countries expect to add 2 or 3 Gold medals to their tally on the final day, so it’s going to be a nailbiting finish to see who claims 2nd place behind the hosts South Africa when all is said and done!
