With the commencement of Athletics on Day 7 of the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics, many Team Nigeria athletes were in action on the track as well as the field.
Nwanneka Okwelogu finished an overall 29th, having placed 14th in Group A of the women’s Shot Put event. Okwelegu couldn’t progress past the qualification stage and did not compete in the final.
Meanwhile after day 1 in the Heptathlon, Uhunoma Osazuwa is currently in 24th position, having amassed a points tally of 3609.
Orukpe Erayokan competed in the 400m heats where he placed 7th in Heat 7 with a Season’s Best (SB) of 47.42s, ending his campaign at Rio 2016.
In the women’s 100m, Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare progressed to the semifinals after finishing 2nd in her heat.
While in Rowing, Chierika Ukogu finished 4th in the Single Sculls semifinal C/D1 with a time of 8:18.55 and will be competing in final D on Saturday.
Nigeria bowed out of the men’s team event in the Table Tennis after the trio of Segun Toriola, Aruna Quadri and Bode Abiodun lost 3-0 to China in Round 1 of the event.
However veteran Toriola was honoured by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for his rare feat of competing in seven Olympic Games.
