After competing on Day 12 of Rio 2016 Olympics, Team Nigeria is still waiting to win its first medal of the competition.

Any hopes nurtured about Nigeria winning GOLD in the football match disappeared after the Dream Team got beaten 2-0 in their semifinal match on Wednesday to Germany.

Dream Team will next play Honduras in the 3rd place match for a chance to win the Bronze medal on offer.

It didn’t also go so well for Team Nigeria’s Wrestlers when they took to the mat, as those who competed on Wednesday couldn’t progress to the next stage.

Meanwhile in Track and Field, Ese Brume finished 5th in the women’s Long Jump final with a mark of 6.81m, just -2cm shy of her Personal Best of 6.83m

Both Divine Oduduru and Oluwatobiloba Amusan competed in the semis of  the men’s 200m and women’s 100m Hurdles, but they didn’t make it to the final of their respective events.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
