Middle Tennessee State University Junior, Loveth Odia emerged champion in the women’s 400m after racing to an Indoor Personal Best (PB) of 53.88s to secure the title at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Alabama during the weekend.
The Nigerian sprinter erased her former lifetime best of 55.18s set in Nashville last year, replacing it with a new mark of 53.88s, as fellow Nigerian and teammate Abike Egbeniyi also followed with a time of 53.95s, which was 0.10s slower than the PB she ran in the preliminaries to top the standings.
University of TexasEl Paso’s Ada Benjamin (54.30s) was beaten to the Bronze medal by Paige Patterson who clocked a superior time of 54.28s. Jennifer Arinze was 5th in 54.66s.
Ghana’s Emmanuel Dasor, who is a Senior at Western Kentucky won the men’s 400m title in 46.54s. He also finished 2nd to fellow Ghanaian and MTSU sprinter Solomon Afful in the 200m final, with the latter taking the win in a time of 21.00s. Dasor followed in 21.14s.
The C-USA Indoor Championships was certainly a memorable one for Odia who secured her second victory of the day in the women’s 4x400m relay where she anchored the quartet comprising of Janet Amponsah, Agnes Abu and Egbeniyi to GOLD in 3:37.53.
The UTEP team which had Dreshanae Rolle, Florence Uwakwe, Imani Adams and Benjamin in action, finished 2nd after posting a time of 3:39.87.
