Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare seems to be hitting form at the right time as she raced to a Season’s Best (SB) of 10.99s to finish 3rd in the women’s 100m at the London Diamond League.
In a race won Olympic champion Elaine Thompson in 10.94s and Dafne Schippers finishing 2nd in 10.97s, Okagbare gave a good account of herself as she ran under 11s for the first time in two years.
Incidentally Okagbare defeated Thompson in the heats, where she ran her first SB of the day, winning that race in 11.04s, with the Jamaican finishing 2nd in 11.16s.
Prior to this meet, Okagbare was yet to race under 11s since 2015, with her fastest time since then coming at the National Championships in Sapele where she won with a time of 11.02s.
Okagbare last Tuesday won her second 100m of the season at the Gyulai Memorial in Hungary, and with this newest mark is now ranked at number 13 in the world this year.
Next stop for Okagbare is the National Championships in Abuja where she will be looking to retain her Nigerian title, and who knows she might just run another sub 11s race just before she proceeds to the World Championships in London.
