Nigeria had only one athlete on parade on Day 5 of the IAAF World Championships holding at the Olympic Stadium in London.
Glory Nathaniel, who was competing in the 400m Hurdles semifinals, had hoped to become the first Nigerian athlete to make it into the final of any event in the championship.
Drawn in Lane 6 in the second semis, Nathaniel went against the likes of Rio 2016 Silver medallist Sara Peterson, and Beijing 2016 Bronze medallist Cassandra Tate.
The hurdler tried to hold her own against the world’s best, finishing 4th in 55.40s, which would have ranked her 9th overall, thus missing the final by whiskers. However, she was subsequently disqualified for an infraction.
Ristananna Tracy of Jamaica won the race in 54.79s, while Lea Sprunger of Switzerland came in 2nd, crossing the line in 54.82s.
