Nigerian sprinter Divine Oduduru opened his 2018 season on Saturday at the Corky Classic, which was held at Texas Tech’s Sports Performance Center, competing in the 60m where he ran alongside established sprinter Mike Rodgers.
Oduduru who is a sophomore, returned a time of 6.66s to finish 2nd behind Rodgers who won the race in 6.60s. Nevertheless, the time is a Personal Best (PB) for the African Games medalist and also the 2nd fastest time on his school’s all-time record.
It may just be a matter of time before the Nigerian sprints his way to Julius Walker’s School Record of 6.63s set 10 years ago. Oduduru currently holds the Red Raiders’ 100m record of 10.09s set last year, and is ranked No.2 on the 200m all-time list with his time of 20.45s, also set last year.
The Red Raiders enjoyed a brilliant outing at the meet held annually to honour Coach Corky Oglesby, securing six first-place finishes and four all-time marks, as well as 19 Top 3 finishes.
Senior Trey Culver stole the spotlight as he soared to a School Record and National and World Lead of 2.33m in the men’s High Jump event. His mark is the highest in the NCAA since 2013 and is ranked 4th on the NCAA all-time list.
In the same vein, former Nigerian Junior Champion Raymond Ekevwo performed a similar feat in his first outing for Oral Roberts University (ORU) where he stormed to a PB of 6.69s to win the men’s 60m at the Arkansas Invitational. His time propelled him to No.2 on ORU’s all-time list.
