The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by the Leopards of DR Congo in a friendly encounter played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port-Harcourt.
Technical Adviser of the team, Gernot Rohr, made some couple of changes to his starting line-up, as he handed debuts to Kano Pillars hot-shot, Junior Lokosa and Simy Nwankwo of Crotone FC.
Both players tried to stamp their foot on the game in the early proceedings, with Nwankwo having the first real opportunity when his shot hit the crossbar, with a rebound effort by Lokosa being blocked by the defense of DR Congo.
William Troost-Ekong scored the only goal for the Super Eagles after slotting the ball into an empty net, which came about after a poor defensive clearance from their opponents.
Like the first half, the chances came sparingly for Nigeria as Oghenekaro Etebo came close to scoring after his 40 yards shot narrowly missed the target.
In the 63rd minute, Simy Nwankwo once again was just whiskers away from doubling his teams lead, as his backward header was met with a fantastic save by Toni Ngani, the goalkeeper of DR Congo.
Nigeria were made to rue those missed opportunities,as Bompunga Paau calmly converted from the penalty spot after Ola Aina was adjudged to have impeded the captain of DR Congo, Issama Npeko.
CSKA Moscow forward, Ahmed Musa was brought in my Rohr to salvage the situation, but the Congolese were resolute in defense as they held on for the draw.
The Super Eagles will now travel to London to play against the three lions of England at the Wembly stadium on the 2nd of June.
