Divine Oduduru was the man to beat in the 60m on Day 1 of the Texas Tech Shootout on Friday, February 8th, as he stormed to victory in the final of the event, setting a Personal Best (PB) of 6.56s to tie the School Record set by teammate Andrew Hudson just two weeks ago.
Oduduru had previously won his heat in 6.62s to run the overall fastest time in the heats, before bettering his previous PB of 6.58s in the final. His new mark of 6.56s is ranked 6th in the world.
Meanwhile fellow Red Raider Jacolby Shelton who also won his heat in 6.69s, and settled for 2nd place in the final in 6.67s. Oduduru is expected to compete in the 4x400m on Saturday, the final day of competition.
The Nigerian who is a Junior at Texas Tech, has landed on the Bowerman mid-indoor watch list, making it into the Top 10 on the men’s list. The Bowerman is considered the highest accolade a collegiate track athlete can earn.
He’s going to set a new national record very soon.
