Born on 25th October 2001, Adeola Ayo can boast of sharing some similarities with multiple World Record holder Usain Bolt, including his height and of course his love for Cricket!
The youngster is MoC’s third recruit from Government College Ughelli, joining the pair of Jerry Jakpa and Favour Ekpekpe who are alumni of the popular Secondary School. The lanky quartermiler caught MoC’s attention at the MoC Athletics Trials held in Ughelli in 2018 – incidentally at Government College, where Ayo was one of the many students from the host institution to participate in the event.
Even though he only came to ‘try his luck’, considering that his first love is Cricket, the teenager was indeed lucky as he was selected for the Enugu Final after winning his 400m heat in Ughelli.
Following MoC’s keen interest in him, Ayo decided to put all his eggs in one basket to face Athletics squarely and relocated to Lagos to join MoC’s Track Club. Ayo competed in the 400m at the 2019 National U-18 & U-20 Trials in his first competitive outing for MoC.
In 2020, he clocked a Personal Best of 48.80s in his first national competition of the year, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) All-Comers in Akure. Who knows, his story may just end like Bolt’s whose first love was Cricket, but later went on to dominate the track globally!
