Uthman Yusuff stumbled into Athletics after being selected to represent his school at Making of Champions’ Athletics Trials in Lagos in 2018. He didn’t expect to make the cut, but he must have impressed the coaches on ground as he was invited to commence training with MoC Track Club in Lagos.
Born on 29th July 2001, Yusuff is convinced that he has what it takes to become like the Asafa Powells of this world and has turned his back on his first love – Football.
He said, “I just started running in September 2018 when I was picked from MoC’s Athletics Trials in Lagos. A letter was sent to my school, asking for the eight fastest runners in my school. I came here hoping to get into MoC and I did at the end of the day, so I am really happy.
“Football has been my passion, so running has been quite difficult for me. The difference is very clear. However, I still want to try my luck in Athletics and hope to progress, so I’m putting the work in”, Yusuff says about his foray into Track and Field.
Yusuff, who hopes to study Computer Science at University, dreams of emulating the feats of Jamaican trailblazer Powell who has clocked the most sub-10s by any male Sprinter in history.
He made his official debut at an Athletics meet at the National U-20 Trials in Ilaro Ogun State where he competed in the 100 and 200m.
