Christian Coleman posted the fastest time Canada all heats of the men’s 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, and was the only one to dip under 10s in the six heats.
The World Leader clocked 9.98s, jogging across the finish in heat 6, with Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs charging past Abdul Hakim Sani Brown who looked to have had 2nd place in his clutch, just edging the Japanese athlete in 10.07s to 10.09s.
Akani Simbine was the 2nd fastest man overall, opening up the 100m on a very good note, winning the first heat in 10.01s ahead of Canadian Champion, Aaron Brown who clocked 10.16s and Zhenye Xie in 10.19s.
Dutch athlete, Taymir Burnet who made it into the heats after running 10.23s in the men’s 100m preliminaries ensured he made it into the semifinals as he got a non-automatic spot with 10.21s while British Champion, Ojie Edoburun also qualified in 10.23s.
Justin Gatlin finished well to top the second heat with a time of 10.06s ahead of Canada’s Andre de Grasse and Adam Gemili, both finishing 2nd and 3rd in 10.13s and 10.19s respectively. Jamaica’s Tyquendo Tracey was a fourth qualifier from that heat.
Yohan Blake also got his campaign off smoothly, edging a strong Jimmy Vicaut in 10.07s as the Frenchman finished a hundredth slower. Arthur Cisse, a silver medallist from the 2019 African Games placed 3rd in 10.14s.
Zharnel Hughes also started out smoothly in heat 3, holding off Nigeria’s Raymond Ekevwo who closed in nicely as the Briton prevailed in 10.08s to the latter’s 10.14s. Emmanuel Matadi finished 3rd in 10.19s.
Brazil also got a win as Paulo Andre Camillo staged a good run, pushing past Michael Rodgers of the United States for the win in 10.11s to the American’s 10.14s. Filippo Tortu was 3rd in 10.20s while Yuki Koike ensured all three Japanese athletes entered for the event made it to the semis with a non-automatic spot as he clocked 10.21s.
